Rochdale Borough Mega Mela

Multicultural Arts and Media Centre is planning its 15th year annual Mega Mela (Community Festival), with Mela Parade, which provides an accessible and enjoyable arena for the all the communities that, attracts a wide audience from across the North West and the country.

The event is non-profit making which continues to be an effective way not only to promote businesses, but also through regional, national and international artists, schools, community centre, colleges, traders and mainstream organisations.

Mission Statement - “The Mega Mela exists to celebrate high quality community arts and activities in Rochdale Borough and beyond and to create opportunities for a wider cross-section of the community to get involved.”

The Rochdale Borough Mega Mela has become a major free multicultural annual event, celebrating the cultural diversity and community cohesion.

This is Rochdale´s biggest annual public cultural event of it´s social calendar.

The event will include Mela Parade, funfair, high profile national and international performances by Western, Afro Caribbean and Asian bands, Visual Arts workshops, Fashion show, morris dancers, various stalls including businesses, food from a variety of different countries, fashion, designer jewellery, arts and crafts and site decorations by schools, young people and artists.

Internationalism

MAMC also provides the opportunity to bring a professional or visiting Visual Artists from Pakistan, for creative workshops sessions to teach and collaborate through embroidery and textile work and share experiences with learners and artists from other cultural backgrounds.

A touring exhibition of Handicraft will also be promoted in schools, galleries and at national melas and festivals.

Dates: 3rd and 4th July 2010. CANCELLED due to lack of funding.

Mela Parade:3rd July 2010 starting 11.15am from Ronald Gorton Centre, Castlemere Street, Rochdale to Mandale Park.

Main Mela Event at Venue: Mandale Park, Manchester Road, Rochdale OL11 4JQ.
